“Colors: bright and bold, complements and harmonies, people, faces, flowers and the land make up my world...and my passion is color... I’ve loved impressionism ever since I can remember...It’s hard to say which painter I admire most. There is something to love in all of their work: Monet’s luminescence, Sargent’s people, Winslow Homer’s watercolors, Wm. Merritt Chase’s landscapes... I like figures in an environment, caught in the act of being themselves...outdoors and nature, the changing moods of seasons and weather, are all reasons to paint...”
“For every subject there is a challenge. It is to find the best way to make the subject an expression of my own vision of it’s essence. I photograph constantly, but photo’s are just a reference, they record everything. An artist has to be selective, she orchestrates the elements of art into personal visual statements...that is the challenge.”
“ I work in oils, pastels and watercolors, and I draw. Each media has it’s own feel and some subjects call out to be rendered in one or the other media. Oil is strong and bold, it’s nature is substantial and eternal. It takes patience and understanding to work in oil. Watercolor is also a challenge. I love its fluidity. When it is applied, accidents can happen. That’s the excitement. Pastels are a wonderfully direct medium, they are like painting with your fingers or pencil, drawing and then building up the color layer upon layer. Sometimes, I just like to draw with a pencil or charcoal and see how much expression I can get out of lines and shading."
Antonia (Toni) Treverton was born in the Panama, Canal Zone in the 1950`s into a family that loved the outdoors, reading and travel. Panama was a wonderful place to grow up, international and primitive at the same time. She remembers outings in the jungle, exploring ocean reefs at the beach, digging for lost Spanish treasures, and the tropical vibrancy of cities. Toni came to the U.S. with her family in the 1970`s. She attended the University of Florida, graduating with a degree in Fine Arts. After college she worked in the print advertising business until she started her family in 1980`s.
In the 1980`s, while residing in Columbus Georgia, Toni’s passion for painting began her journey of independent study that has brought her work to the point it is today. After a one woman show in Columbus, Georgia in 1996 and subsequent entries in various shows in Georgia and now in Florida, her work hangs in numerous private collections in the United States and internationally.
Toni is a member of Oil Painters of America, Plein Air Florida, and Portrait Society of America.
